The Giant Woodrail is native to the tropical forests, swamps, marshes and river banks of Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Bolivia in South America.

They are terrestrial, which means they live on land and they are very fast runners.

This species is a large bird, can grow up to 50cm tall.and has a very loud call, that is at its loudest at first light.

The Giant Woodrail is an omnivore (eat both plants and animals) and their diet consists of fruit, seeds, molluscs, insects and small mammals.

Lifespan – 7-10 years

IUCN Conservation Status – Least Concern
