Suricata suricatta

Meerkats are small mammals from the mongoose family and are native to South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and West Angola.  Very social by nature, meerkats live in groups called mobs, gangs or clans.

They are primarily insectivorous which means the majority of their diet consists of insects but they also eat other things.

They are commonly known for their inquisitive nature and upright stance.

Lifespan – 12-14 years (in captivity)

IUCN Conservation Status – Least Concern
