The Moluccan Cockatoo, also known as the Salmon-crested Cockatoo, is listed as Vulnerable to extinction due to its rapid decline in the wild. Since 1989, it has also been listed on Appendix I of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) which makes it illegal to trade in wild caught birds.
They are found in lowland forests in the South Moluccan Islands of Indonesia.
This species is known as one of the most demanding parrot species to keep.
